I found these so called facts when doing some searches on myspace and found them to be interesting. Fact or Fiction?
MySpace was founded in August 2003 by eUniverse (which later in mid-2004 changed its name to Intermix).
The very first MySpace users were E-Universe employees. In October 2006, Brad Greenspan (the former Chairman, CEO and largest individual shareholder of Intermix Media, who claims to be the true “founder of MySpace”) launched a website and published “The MySpace Report” that called for the Securities and Exchange Commission, the United States Department of Justice.
It is headquartered in Beverly Hills, California, USA, where it shares an office building with its immediate owner, Fox Interactive Media; in turn, the owner of Fox Interactive and therefore MySpace, News Corporation, is headquartered in New York City.
MySpace profiles for musicians are different from normal profiles in that artists are allowed to upload up to six MP3 songs.
MySpace has a Groups feature, which allows a group of users to share a common page and message board.
MySpace’s music section has helped many amateur bands progress.
MySpace’s culture is now defined by provocative personal profiles and a highly social “meat market” atmosphere of interaction.
According to Alexia Internet, MySpace is currently the world’s sixth most popular English-language website and the sixth most popular website in any language, 2 and the third most popular website in the United States, though it has topped the chart on various weeks.
Hardline anti-pedophile organization Perverted Justice has praised Myspace for its efforts to combat pedophiles using their service.
YouTube first appeared on the web in early 2005, and it quickly gained popularity on MySpace due to MySpace users’ ability to embed YouTube videos in their MySpace profiles. Realizing the competitive threat to the new MySpace Videos service, MySpace banned embedded YouTube videos from its user profiles.
Software friend adders like http://www.myfriendbuilder.com are not welcome but highly used by myspacers as they give an advantage to those who use myspace for their bands, nightclubs and businesses.
So now you know little more fact or fiction about that phenomenon know as myspace.
